Minnesota DFL Celebrates Governor Walz’s Election as DGA Chair

12/02/2023

ST PAUL – Tonight, December 2, Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement celebrating the decision by Democratic governors across the country to elect Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as Chair of the Democratic Governors’ Association (DGA).

“Governor Walz has championed an agenda that has made Minnesota a national model for progress on everything from ending child poverty to climate action,” said DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin. “I’m thrilled that Governor Walz will now be bringing the Minnesota model for Democratic victories at the ballot box to the national stage. By combining strong campaigns with an equally strong commitment to improving people’s lives, Governor Walz and DFL leaders across our state are putting Minnesota on the map as the nation’s North Star.”

Last November, Walz won by 8 points in a hotly contested reelection bid and broke fundraising records for a Minnesota gubernatorial campaign. Since winning reelection, the DFL legislature and Governor Walz have passed and signed transformative legislation to improve Minnesotans’ lives, including:

  • a nation-leading child tax credit
  • paid family leave legislation
  • cannabis legalization with expungement
  • additional funding for affordable housing and childcare
  • new gun reforms, including red flag laws and expanded background checks
  • abortion rights protections
  • protections for LGBTQ+ families
  • increased funding for education
