Today, DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement slamming a recent letter from over 30 Minnesota Republican lawmakers which attacked the Mayo Clinic for requiring its employees be vaccinated against COVID-19 and urged the clinic to reverse its decision:

“It is deeply disturbing that Minnesota Republicans would attack a world-renowned medical center for requiring its employees to be vaccinated against a deadly pandemic. Minnesota has lost over 10,000 of our friends, neighbors, and community members to COVID-19, but instead of working to curb the spread of the virus, Republican lawmakers are trying to discourage vaccination.

“Patients in hospitals and medical centers are often particularly vulnerable to the spread of disease. The last thing we need is to increase the chance that patients seeking medical care are exposed to COVID-19. The plain truth is that, if Republicans got what they are asking for, more Minnesotans would suffer.”

In July of 2021, Mayo Clinic was ranked the best hospital in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for the sixth year in a row.
