What is the Minnesota DFL Senior Caucus?

 

The Senior Caucus was formed in 2006 as an organization within the Minnesota Democratic Farmer Labor party to address the needs of seniors.

 

The Caucus works to involve seniors throughout Minnesota in the political process, to provide a vehicle for their active participation in the DFL party, and to promote programs and legislation that protect and enhance the lives of seniors. Our united efforts influence voters and policy makers. Our voice makes a difference in assuring that the needs of older Minnesotans are addressed in policies and law.

 

The DFL Senior Caucus promotes the active participation of Minnesota seniors in the political process, gives voice to senior issues, and works to increase voter turnout among Minnesota seniors.

The goal of the Caucus is to affect public policy by bringing focus and accountability to senior issues and by working to elect public officials who support such issues as:

  • Affordable health care
  • Fair and equitable tax policies
  • Sound transportation systems
  • Fair prescription-drug coverage
  • Affordable housing
  • Safe and livable communities

 

The Senior Caucus supports the following resolutions and issues:

  1. Broadband
  2. End-of-Life Options
  3. Protect and Extend Medicare/Medicaid
  4. Volunteers for Specialized Transportation
  5. Make Insulin Affordable/Available
  6. Senior Housing

 

To achieve our goals, we:

  • Organize seniors
  • Inform and educate on senior issues
  • Involve seniors in campaigns and policy making
  • Advocate and lobby on behalf of seniors
  • Hold officials accountable

Our unified voice makes a difference in assuring that the needs of older Minnesotans are addressed in law and policy. Our united efforts influence voters.
