Coordinated Campaign Coalitions Organizing Director

The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party is hiring full-time Statewide Coalitions Organizing Director for the 2024 cycle. We are seeking a passionate and talented individual who cares deeply about engaging constituency groups across the state to make sure that traditionally underrepresented voices are heard this election cycle. This role will manage the African American, African Immigrant, Hmong, Indigenous and Latino directors and oversee their organizing teams. 

This position reports to the General Elections Director and is based in Saint Paul, MN. The preferred start date for this position would be April 22, 2024

Responsibilities

  • Manage Coalitions Organizing Team: Recruit, train, manage and support a team of Community Engagement Directors as they manage their own set of organizers and volunteers. Support and guide Community Engagement Directors and Coalitions Organizers throughout the state to ensure they meet and exceed their metrics of engaging their communities in the voting process
  • Direct Voter Contact Planning: Plan, lead and execute grassroots field activities for a diverse group of volunteers such as phone banks, apartment door knocks, and canvasses (door knocks)
  • Write and Implement Community Engagement plans: Support each of the teams as they write the plans that will engage each constituency, and help hold teams accountable to their goals.
  • Represent the DFL: Serve as the local representative for the DFL within the communities and at events in communities.
  • Collaborate with Other Departments: Work closely with other departments in the Coordinated Campaign to meet and exceed metrics 
  • Additional Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned by supervisor, Coordinated Campaign leadership, Executive Director, or Chair 


Requirements:

  • At least two cycles experience in electoral politics or advocacy, at least one cycle managing paid staff
  • Experience training, supporting, and managing staff in an electoral or community engagement capacity
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle
  • Ability to work long or irregular hours, including nights and weekends
  • Proficiency in VoteBuilder (VAN), Google Docs, and Excel 
  • Cultural Competency – Able to build authentic relationships across lines of difference, such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, gender identity, citizenship status, or other identities. Understands how to take an inclusive lens into all aspects of work
  • Support the DFL’s goal to elect more Democrats up and down the ticket, maintaining a majority in the Minnesota House, reelecting Senator Amy Klobuchar, sending our MN Democrats to Congress, and re-electing President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris


Preferred but not required:

  • Minnesota experience or ties to the state 
  • Experience working in Minnesota politics 

 

COVID Addendum: While many meetings and events can still happen virtually or over the phone, organizers will be expected to work in-person, within reason and with safety precautions in place, at events in the community. This means that the prospective staff will need to live in the turf that they are applying for. 

Compensation: Annual salary for this position, commensurate on experience is $84,000-$96,000. Employees of the DFL are paid on a bi-weekly basis and receive a competitive benefits package including health care and dental.
