Key Dates for Delegates and Alternates

Today, the Chair of the Minnesota Republican Party, Jennifer Carnahan, took to Twitter to allege that “Democrats have turned Coronavirus into an excuse for extreme communist control,” due to social distancing measures implemented in the city of Minneapolis.

Today, 51 State Democratic Party Chairs from across the United States, the Territories, and Democrats Abroad released a letter urging swift action from federal and state elected officials to protect our voting infrastructure from the coronavirus.

Many kids rely on school meals as their daily source of food. While schools have shut down across the state, restaurants are stepping up to help families by offering free kids meals. These restaurants, despite their businesses being affected by the public health crisis, are offering free meals to families across the state.

This week, the COVID-19 crisis took an immensely tragic turn for Minnesota’s elected leaders working to guide our state and our country through these difficult times.

In light of the voting issues that arose in Illinois and Florida as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, Ken Martin, President of the Association of State Democratic Committees (ASDC), Vice-Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Chairman of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party called for states to immediately adopt emergency measures to ensure voters are not disenfranchised by this public health crisis.

Last night, an emergency meeting of the Minnesota DFL Party Executive Committee made the decision to move local convention activities away from in-person meetings and tele-conventions, and instead conduct party business via an online balloting system. This decision was made to ensure all DFL Party events are in compliance with advice from public health officials to cease small group gatherings.

This evening, the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party’s Executive Committee met and approved a slate of emergency measures designed to combat the spread of COVID-19.
