Minnesota DFL Statement on the Start of Ramadan
Today, Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chairman Ken Martin issued the following statement on the beginning of Ramadan:
As the Holy Month of Ramadan begins, I’d like to extend my well-wishes to Muslim families across Minnesota on behalf of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party.
Though the unfortunate reality of COVID-19 has forced many of us apart physically, I hope Ramadan continues to bring Muslim communities together in joy, compassion, and spiritual growth as it has for over a millennium.
For Muslims across Minnesota, Ramadan is a time of prayer and purity, of charity and community, and of fasting and family. For the rest of us, Ramadan affords us an opportunity to celebrate the contributions that Muslims have made to our great state and to declare once more that we are One Minnesota.
The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us how strong and resilient we are when Minnesotans from all walks of life unite behind a common goal. Our ability to persevere through these trying times comes to us because of our diversity, not despite it. It is crucial that we bear this in mind as we continue working to build a more welcoming and compassionate Minnesota.
