Yesterday, Scott Jensen’s running mate, Matt Birk, released a new video, unapologetically doubling down after video surfaced of Birk making appalling remarks about women with careers, rape, survivors, slavery, and abortion.
In his new video, Birk proudly states that he has given the same speech declaring that women having careers promotes abortion “over 200” times at different anti-choice events throughout the country. Then, addressing Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, Birk challenges her: “Aren’t you a mother? Isn’t that more important than being Lieutenant Governor?”
Jensen and Birk both have said they support banning abortion with no exceptions for victims of rape and incest.
“Instead of apologizing to women and survivors for his appalling remarks, Matt Birk is doubling down. Since Scott Jensen wants to ban abortion with no exemption for rape, perhaps it’s no surprise that he selected a running mate who also does not respect survivors,” said DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin. “Republicans up and down the ballot owe the public answers about whether they share these beliefs. Would a GOP legislature support the abortion ban – with no exceptions for rape or incest – that Scott Jensen and Matt Birk want to sign into law?”
