Coordinated Campaign Deputy Press Secretary

Position Title: Deputy Press Secretary

Location: Metro Area, MN

Position Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Communications Director

Position Overview:
The Minnesota DFL Coordinated Campaign is seeking a Deputy Press Secretary to support the communications team in executing the campaign’s press strategy. This role will expand the campaign’s ability to manage press events across multiple media markets, assist in drafting media advisories, press releases, remarks, op-eds and letters to the editor, and ensure the campaign’s message reaches all corners of Minnesota. Access to reliable transportation is required. This is a full-time, temporary role located in Minnesota that requires in-person work.

Key Responsibilities:

Press Event Support:

  • Assist in organizing and managing press events in various media markets, including Greater Minnesota.
  • Support the Press Secretary and Regional Press Secretary in coordinating press conferences and media interactions.
  • Help ensure consistency of messaging across all press events and media engagements.

Content Creation:

  • Draft remarks, media advisories, press releases, op-eds, and Letters to the Editor.
  • Collaborate with the Press Secretary and Regional Press Secretary to tailor content for regional audiences.
  • Assist in developing key messages and talking points for media interactions.

Media Monitoring and Response:

  • Monitor media coverage and analyze its impact on the campaign.
  • Provide regular updates to the Press Secretary and Regional Press Secretary on press activities and opportunities. 
  • Respond to media inquiries and assist with arranging interviews as needed.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Work closely with the communications team to ensure consistency of messaging across all channels.
  • Support the Press Secretary and Regional Press Secretary in managing relationships with key stakeholders, media, and public officials.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Take on additional tasks as assigned by the Communications Director to ensure the success of the campaign’s communication efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience in media relations, political campaigns, or communications preferred. Experience managing press events and drafting materials such as op-eds, letters to the editor, media advisories and press releases is highly valued.
  • Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in using digital tools and media monitoring software.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, political science, or a related field preferred, but not required.
  • Attributes: Passionate about political advocacy and making a difference. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexible and adaptable to changing campaign needs. Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required. Access to reliable transportation is also required.

Salary & Benefits:

  • The pay range is $2,540 bi-weekly, commensurate with experience. Employees of the DFL are paid on a bi-weekly basis and receive a competitive benefits package including health care and dental.
