Coordinated Campaign Deputy Voter Protection Director

The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party is hiring a full-time Coordinated Campaign Deputy Voter Protection Director for the 2024 cycle. This is a mid-level position for an individual with previous voter protection experience.

As the Deputy Voter Protection Director you will be working directly with the Voter Protection Director to ensure that all eligible Minnesotans are able to cast ballots and have their votes counted in 2024. This position will assist in developing and overseeing all programmatic elements of the DFL’s statewide voter protection efforts, managing relationships with key partners and stakeholders, and building reports for senior campaign staff. We are seeking someone who is ready to build management and leadership skills, take ownership of key program elements, and deeply believes in the critical civil rights work of Voter Protection.

The Deputy Voter Protection Director will report directly to the Coordinated Campaign Voter Protection Director. The position will be based out of DFL Headquarters at 255 E Plato Boulevard in Saint Paul. This position would start on Monday, June 10th or ASAP. We will be accepting applications on a rolling basis.

Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Voter Protection Director, supervise Regional Voter Protection Directors and/or Voter Protection Organizers, and Hotline Manager(s).
  • Assist with development and management of robust Poll Challenger & Local Liaison programs for state primary and general elections, including recruiting and training volunteers, precinct prioritization and assignment, and issue resolution processes.
  • Support the Voter Protection Hotline in volunteer training, operations, reporting, and issue resolution.
  • Ensure that all communications to volunteers and voters include timely, relevant, and accurate information about elections.
  • Work alongside DFL Coalitions staff to build relationships in communities that have been targeted for voter suppression.
  • Identify potential threats and support the mobilization of a coordinated response within the DFL.
  • Administer Lawyers Bound for Justice (LBJ), VAN/Votebuilder, Google Forms and other database tools to track issues, volunteers, and voters.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated excellence in developing and leading multiple, complex projects simultaneously.
  • 2+ cycles of electoral campaign experience
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced organization and the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • A strong, data-driven organizer and relationship builder who has familiarity with VAN/Votebuilder, LBJ, Google Suite, and other tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle.
  • Support the DFL’s goal to elect more Democrats up and down the ticket.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Voter Protection Director, Coordinated Campaign Director, Executive Director, or Party Chair.

Preferred but not required:

  • Minnesota experience or ties to the state.
  • Familiarity with Minnesota election laws and procedures.

Compensation: The salary for this position is between $6,000 and $7,000 per month, commensurate with experience. Employees of the DFL are paid on a bi-weekly basis and receive a competitive benefits package including health care and dental.

COVID Addendum: While many meetings and events can still happen virtually or over the phone, Regional Organizing Directors will be expected to work predominantly in-person and with safety precautions in place, at events in the community. This means that the prospective staff will need to live in the turf that they are applying for or be willing to relocate.
