Coordinated Campaign Deputy Organizing Director

The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party is hiring full-time Deputy Organizing Directors for the 2024 cycle.This is a management level position with multiple support staff. This position reports to the Organizing Director and is based in Saint Paul. The preferred starting date would be July 22, 2024.

As a Deputy Organizing Director, you will play an integral role in our campaign’s success, working closely with the Organizing Director to drive strategic field initiatives, inspire a dedicated team of a Youth Organizing Director, Campus and Field Organizers, and implement effective direct voter contact. We are seeking experienced and compassionate team managers who care about helping their teams grow their skills and hit their goals.

Responsibilities

  • Work Closely with the Organizing Director: Work alongside the Organizing Director to implement the Field Plan and the everyday operations and success of the Organizing Program, particularly campus and youth programs
  • Manage Regional Organizing Teams: Support and guide Regional Organizing Directors throughout the state to ensure their regions meet and exceed their goals and metrics. Help them grow as managers and support the hiring, training, and professional development of the rest of the organizing staff
  • Reporting and Metric Tracking: Overseeing timely and accurate reporting and data management by the Regional Organizing Directors
  • Represent the DFL: Serve as a representative for the DFL within local communities.
  • Cross-department Collaboration: Work closely with other departments in the Coordinated Campaign to meet and exceed metrics and implement collaborative projects
  • Additional Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned by supervisor, Coordinated Campaign leadership, Executive Director, or Chair

Requirements:

  • At least two cycles experience in electoral politics or advocacy
  • Experience managing staff
  • Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed goals
  • Ability to work both diligently and independently as needed
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle
  • Ability to work long or irregular hours, including nights and weekends
  • Proficiency in VoteBuilder (VAN), Google Docs, and Excel
  • Cultural Competency – Able to build authentic relationships across lines of difference, such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, gender identity, citizenship status, or other identities. Understands how to take an inclusive lens into all aspects of work
  • Support the DFL’s goal to elect more Democrats up and down the ticket, maintaining a majority in the Minnesota House, reflecting Senator Amy Klobuchar, sending more Democrats to Congress, and re-electing President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris

Preferred but not required:

  • Minnesota experience or ties to the state
  • Experience working on Minnesota politics

COVID Addendum: While many meetings and events can still happen virtually or over the phone, organizers will be expected to work in-person, within reason and with safety precautions in place, at events in the community. This means that the prospective staff will need to live in the turf that they are applying for.

Compensation: Salary is $6,000 to $7,000/month, commensurate with experience. Employees of the DFL are paid on a bi-weekly basis and receive a competitive benefits package including health care and dental.
