Today, May 2nd, Politico reported on a draft majority opinion from the Supreme Court striking down Roe v. Wade and threatening access to abortion care across America.
DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement in response:
“As a direct result of the Republican Party’s decades-long assault on access to abortion, the Supreme Court is set to overturn Roe v. Wade and do grievous harm to millions of Americans.
“Minnesota will almost certainly become one of the few states in the Midwest where access to abortion is protected for the time being, making us a refuge that so many will rely on for access to basic reproductive healthcare. However, Republican lawmakers here have promised to ban abortion here too. Make no mistake, abortion is on the ballot this November in Minnesota and across America.
“As we prepare to enter this grim new chapter of American history, the DFL Party will do everything in our power to defend access to abortion and the rights and freedoms of all Minnesotans.”
